In collaboration with the National Training and Simulation Association (NTSA), the Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) Initiative is excited to announce iFest 2018. IFest provides unique opportunities for military, government, industry, and academia professionals to share the latest in distributed learning innovations. This year’s theme is the Future Learning Ecosystem with a focus on interoperability, learning data/analytics, and learning science. This year will also include a 'Hackathon' which is open to attendees and participating organizations. The goal of the hackathon is to create usable, xAPI-driven dashboards in support of ADL's Total Learning Architecture (TLA). The hackathon will provide a robust corpus of xAPI statements within an LRS.
Participants are encouraged to experiment and think 'out of the box' to unleash the power of learning analytics. Results of the hackathon will be presented to IFest attendees on the last day of the conference. Relevant Government Agencies DOD & Military.

Algorithm changes, such as switching from a slow (e.g. Linear) search algorithm to a fast (e.g.
Hashed or indexed) search algorithm can reduce resource usage for a given task from substantial to close to zero. A study by a physicist at Harvard, estimated that the average Google search released 7 grams of carbon dioxide (CO₂).25 However, Google disputes this figure, arguing instead that a typical search produces only 0.2 grams of CO₂.26 Resource allocation Main article: Resource allocation Algorithms can also be used to route data to data centers where electricity is less expensive. Researchers from MIT, Carnegie Mellon University, and Akamai have tested an energy allocation algorithm that successfully routes traffic to the location with the cheapest energy costs. The researchers project up to a 40 percent savings on energy costs if their proposed algorithm were to be deployed.
However, this approach does not actually reduce the amount of energy being used; it reduces only the cost to the company using it. Nonetheless, a similar strategy could be used to direct traffic to rely on energy that is produced in a more environmentally friendly or efficient way. A similar approach has also been used to cut energy usage by routing traffic away from data centers experiencing warm weather; this allows computers to be shut down to avoid using air conditioning.27 Larger server centers are sometimes located where energy and land are inexpensive and readily available. Local availability of renewable energy, climate that allows outside air to be used for cooling, or locating them where the heat they produce may be used for other purposes could be factors in green siting decisions. Approaches to actually reduce the energy consumption of network devices by proper network/device management techniques are surveyed in.28 The authors grouped the approaches into 4 main strategies, namely (i) Adaptive Link Rate (ALR), (ii) Interface Proxying, (iii) Energy Aware Infrastructure, and (iv) Energy Aware Applications.Frank Auth Comp & lit II Essay 1 In the short story “the Story of an Hour” by Kate Chopin and the short story “blue + yellow” by Chris Killen compare in many ways. These two stories use the same literary device strongly such as imagery.
Imagery is a literary device in which the author uses words and phrases to paint a picture in the readers head throughout the story. These two short stories are written with very descriptive language to help paint a picture of the occurrences in the story and describe a scene. These two stories also contrast in many ways such as the way they use symbolism as well as the relationships between the characters in both stories. The two short stories compare in the use of the literary devices imagery and in the themes. The imagery used in “the Story of an Hour” is when the author is painting a picture of the main characters reaction to the news of her husband’s apparent death. Mallard learns of her husband’s death she is very upset, and locks herself in her room, and sits down in her chair starring out the window. The author uses descriptive language here such as “There stood, facing the open window, a comfortable, roomy armchair.
Into this she sank, pressed down by a physical exhaustion that haunted her body and seemed to reach into her soul,” (Kate Chopin Par 4) to paint a picture of how the character is acting. Using such detail helps the reader clearly understand and mentally visualize how the character is acting in this. Words: 1310 - Pages: 6.EN1420 Comp II Unit 5 Project Part II Portner, J. In addition, we will learn how to use some of Java’s graphics capabilities for drawing shapes in a display area. The programming assignment for this week is to implement a simple paddle ball game. Paddle Ball Game Overview The paddle ball game is a simplification of the Pong game. In the Pong game, a ball is moving around the display, bouncing off walls. The player moves a paddle in one dimension, trying to hit the ball whenever possible.
If the ball hits the paddle, it bounces off and continues on its way. If the paddle misses the ball, the ball goes off the end of the display area and the player loses a point. In our paddle ball game, the ball moves around the display, bouncing off walls just as in the Pong game. The player controls a paddle trying to hit the ball just like in the Pong game.
If the ball hits the paddle, it bounces off and continues on its way. The main difference in our game is that if the player misses the ball, the ball simply bounces off the wall behind the paddle and continues to travel. There is no scoring in this game. Concerning criminal behavior, many people want to blame the parents, or the individual’s upbringing, especially if it is a child or a teen committing a crime. Others want to blame social media and gaming or our society. While all of these can play a role in criminal behavior, so does genetics.
Let’s repeat that, genetics play a role in criminal behavior, not make a person become a criminal. Genes do not cause behavior, but they affect tendencies to behave in certain ways (Nurnberger, Aug 10, 2006, para. Anything can influence an individual to act and behave like a criminal, but those things do not make individuals commit crimes. That is entirely a choice.

Genes contribute to an individual’s patterns because genes affect learning. Saying that something is influenced genetically is not saying environmental factors are not relevant. Saying a behavior is influenced genetically is not saying that it is unalterable or inevitable. “A predisposition is not predestination (Jones, pg87). Several components that contribute to criminal behavior are looked at; however, genetic factors are often overlooked as an important attribute. Some genetic influences are children who have behavior or disruptive. Cody June 27, 2015 I have decided to enter writing assignments 1, 2, and 5 into my writing portfolio as a part of my final project.
I chose these three specific essays because each essay relates to me in a unique way regarding my life experiences. I feel that I capture my audience’s attention in such a personal way that they desire to hear more. My personal writing comes from a vantage point about a particular subject in an expressive aim.
The content of my writings are equipped for people who are more advanced in life; compared to those who haven’t had experience to support a family, finances, or particular employment. My writings apply to the expressive aim of writing and have comparable lacks. In my future writing processes, I plan to sum up my essays with less redundancy and more content.
I learned to touch on the major points of my writings without presenting new information into my conclusions. While reviewing my essays, I realized that I continued to repeat the same errors but made the effort to not double speak when creating my words and thoughts. Given the corrections, I was able to make improvements to my writings so that they will have a continuous, but steady flow avoiding lessening the value of the subject at hand. Words: 624 - Pages: 3.lts and Discussion The heart of a laboratory report is the presentation of the results and the discussion of those results. In some formats, 'Results' and 'Discussion' appear as separate sections. However, P.B. Medawar 1979 makes a strong case that the two should appear together, particularly when you have many results to present (otherwise, the audience is faced with a 'dump' of information that is impossible to synthesize).
Much here depends upon your experiment and the purpose of your laboratory report. Therefore, pay attention to what your laboratory instructor requests. Also, use your judgment. For instance, combine these sections when the discussion of your first result is needed to understand your second result, but separate these sections when it is useful to discuss the results as a whole after all results are reported. In discussing the results, you should not only analyze the results, but also discuss the implications of those results. Moreover, pay attention to the errors that existed in the experiment, both where they originated and what their significance is for interpreting the reliability of conclusions.
One important way to present numerical results is to show them in graphs. Sample Results and Discussion This section analyses the results of the experiment. The experiment went as expected with no unusual events that would have introduced error. The voltages as measured for the pressure and temperature transducers appear in Table A-1 of the.
